Stella Young comedian/activist coined term inspiration porn we died December 6, 2014
Inspiration porn: Able people view and use people with disabilities solely as objects of their own inspiration. The term inspiration porn was coined by Stella Young, an Australian comedian, journalist, and disability rights activist.
My personal stance on ableism, it’s about the tone of the conversation, and the approach. Not the topic or title alone.
And honestly I would rather be guilty of spreading inspiration porn than hate against our diverse community if we even got that attention long enough for people to notice. This is not a celebrity stance-and the fact that we seem ore concerned about our representation being shown in Hollywood, rather in ever day life/societal means is disturbing to me. The only time were are mentioned is for the fear factor or told that an essential resource is being taken away from us for “reasons” that line the over-flowing pockets of the true overprivileged. (Hollywood.) Do we not see the irony here? Their show of “solidarity” Last long enough to being a branding topic for our current generations to show “their support”. But when reality hits they are nowhere to be seen. Why Because they have no idea what it’s like to fight for basic needs and essential to help maintain our lives. Yet no one seriously talks about this. instead, we get told oh what a shame or that we’re wining and complaining. Don’t you get paid by the state? What more do you want? No one talks about how offended and discriminatory this is no one not even our own community provide enough action into this problem. We would rather blame political parties, Rather than seeing this is a people problem, and we’re missing an enormous opportunity to lead, educate, and Take our seat at the table for a very long awaited conversation about true change with actual action. Well, let this sho, an my platform be for the first to say, it’s time to put up, and show up people stop blaming, and start listening. Stop pointing fingers, and start inviting people to learn, work and grow with us. What do you all my listeners think? What are your thoughts/opinions?
