Why The Great Debate? Why I am For Legalizing Medical Marijuana. (Cannabis.)

Author’s Note: I am not a professional of any kind. This piece on medical marijuana, while there as some facts, and stats in it, this is largely a piece that is based on my own personal opinion on the topic of why I am for the use of medical marijuana.

Let us start from the beginning. What is Medical Marijuana? The term: Medical Marijuana is simple. Using the plant in its entirety (which is unprocessed) or using its basic extracts to treat illness or other conditions. Currently, there are 29 states that have legalized medical marijuana. This includes Washington, DC.

The debate from those against the use of marijuana in the medical field by means of medicine is that is not FDA approved, can possibly lead to infertility issues, cause damage the immune system and brain. As well as lead to recreational use. The FDA itself, however, has not approved marijuana to be a safe and or effective drug. Saying that an untested drug can have unknown consequences.

In 1970, The US Congress put marijuana under the controlled substance. Claiming it had no medical use. However, the FDA has approved two drugs containing a synthetic version of a substance that is found in the marijuana plant. And another drug where a synthetic drug that acts similar to the compounds found in marijuana but is not present in it. There has also been significant interest in the last few decades for the potential possibilities for using marijuana for treating a variety of medical conditions. Which also include those that already have FDA approved therapies.

The FDA is made aware of the interest in a variety of medical conditions known to help those that have the following medical conditions. Such as seizure disorders, nauseous brought on by chemotherapy, spasms, MS, and glaucoma. Here is my opinion. I am for the use of medical marijuana. I understand the concern that those against the use of using medical marijuana have. And honestly, I believe the stance, “it’s too dangerous to use an untested drug on people” is a cover-up. It is just as easy to test a marijuana plant as it is to test the various prescriptions that are currently being prescribed to millions of people every day. I have watched countless videos of those that suffer from several serious medical conditions bedridden, and their organs failing from the numerous drugs they need to help them, turn to medical marijuana they not only were they up and mobile, but their condition had taken a total tun for the better. And/or greatly improved overall.

And yes, while the use of marijuana may lead to other drugs for some, but it is not the case for everyone. And I like to add too that just like those that rely on these drugs for pain management a medical marijuana doctor is also carefully monitoring when and how much you use. My question, for you, is this. If a plant has the potential to better someone’s quality of life and eases their pain enough to regain their life back or spend the remainder of it in less discomfort than why not run the much-needed tests to see what benefits that this plant truly has? If a simple pant holds the potential to ease the various symptoms of an illness or a condition then why not take the leap? Has anyone ever bothered to ask themselves, “why the pharmaceutical companies never ask how they can help the families that lose a loved one from a drug overdose”? Or offer to pay their way into treatment? Or ask how they can help those better manage their pain for those that rely on their medications for that specific reason? And by the way, have you ever read any headlines about someone who has accidentally over-dosed or became dependent on medical marijuana? It is time to put down all the “reasons” for not further investing just how impactful medical marijuana could be to the medical field and those in need of it, and start asking themselves could a simple pent hold the key to saving/improving lives rather than endanger them like I presume they would? Is money really more important than bettering the lives affected by pain and Illness? I certainly don’t think it is. Do you?

Whether or not someone will or will not use medical marijuana is a personal choice. A choice that they themselves and their doctor come to on their own. I think that once we take the assumption out of it and look at it from a medical standpoint rather than a recreational point of view, we will see that there are more benefits to medical marijuana than negative ones. I think if given the opportunity to show that medical marijuana is more helpful than harmful to someone in need of relieving pain and or discomfort. In my opinion, that is not a “risk”, but rather a missed opportunity to better the lives who deal with chronic pain, life-altering conditions where some are terminal.

If I could personally ask those against the use of medical marijuana, to please take their own personal judgments and assumptions out of it, and look at it from a clinical/medical standpoint. It could improve the lives of so many. Thank you.

It's nonetheless unclear why people have pure cannabinoid receptors and the way they work (Hazelden, 2005; Martin, 2004).
